My name is Maya. I am an English teacher and I currently hold a bachelor degree in English Literature and a Professional diploma in the English language. I have taught grammar and literature to students whose ages range from ten to thirty-five.
“Not all children are ready to learn the same thing at the same time in the same way”. I found this particularly true during my school placements where I embraced opportunities to scaffold students’ learning in order to facilitate individually appropriate stages of learning within a safe and constructive environment. My experiences as a substitute, tutor, and student teacher have afforded me the opportunity to interact with diverse student populations and engage them in learning.
Throughout the years, I have invested all my effort into trying to grasp and implement the best teaching techniques. I found out that creativity, nurturing, and most importantly patience, are the essential characteristics a teacher should possess. My goal is to motivate students by providing a stimulating learning environment that fosters confidence and encourages them to reach their full potential. Not only do I want to transfer my wealth of information to students through academic skills, but I also want to participate in teaching them life lessons such as: the value of community, good citizenship as well as the importance of sportsmanship and fair play. I deeply aspire to play a fundamental role in ensuring that all students from all cultures and learning abilities have the opportunity to be guided in a positive learning environment. I am committed to the physical, emotional, and intellectual development of my students. I take the responsibilities of an educator very seriously, and will work hard to develop mutual trust and respect between myself and the students.
